4 Days 3 Nights
Nile Cruise
Friday, Monday, Wednesday
Cruise the Nile on a 5-star ship from Aswan to Luxor, stopping along the way to see the sights of Kom Ombo, Edfu, Karnak Temple, Hatshepsut’s Temple and the Valley of the Kings. On a full board basis, your meals are taken care of and your personal guide will show you the best of Ancient Egypt.
Begin your exploration of Ancient Egypt in the beautiful city of Aswan. Your guide will pick you up from your hotel in Aswan and take you to Philae Temple. Known as the ‘Pearl of Egypt’, the Greco-Roman temples and colonnades, kiosks and shrines dominate the skyline. You will then be dropped off at the cruise ship in time for lunch and the rest of the day to relax on board.
Early in the morning, you have the option of taking an optional excursion to Abu Simbel or enjoying a free morning. Built by Ramses II, the mighty temple is a marvel of ancient engineering and has a fascinating modern history. Enjoy lunch on board and set sail for Kom Ombo. Discover the temple dedicated to Sobek, the crocodile god, and Horus, the falcon-headed god, with your guide. The layout combines two temples into one, with gates and chapels on each side. After a tour of Kom Ombo, return to the ship for dinner and a relaxing evening before setting sail for an overnight stay in Edfu.
After breakfast, your guide will meet you to visit a hidden gem in Edfu, the Temple of Horus. This is the largest temple dedicated to Horus, one of Egypt’s most important historical deities, with statues of the falcon-headed god found throughout the complex. The extensive carvings on the temple walls have provided historians with valuable information about the Hellenistic period of Egypt’s history, with exquisite reliefs giving us insight into the religion, mythology and lifestyle of the era.
After breakfast, you can leave your luggage at reception and spend the day exploring Luxor. Start your West Bank tour at the Valley of the Kings, where you will visit the royal tombs of the pharaohs of the new kingdom. Wander through passages decorated with reliefs and hieroglyphs and learn about ancient Egyptian beliefs about the afterlife. Next stop is the mortuary temple of Queen Hatshepsut. An avid admirer of Mentuhotep II’s temple, Hatshepsut designed her own design to mirror it but on a much larger scale, and in case anyone missed the comparison, had it built right next to the old temple. Stop for a quick visit to the enormous Colossi of Memnon, then enjoy a lunch break at a local restaurant in Luxor. Then it’s time to explore Luxor’s East Bank. Start your tour at Luxor’s largest temple, the impressive Karnak Temple. Karnak, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is home to three main temples, several smaller enclosed temples, and several outer temples. It combines the achievements of generations of ancient builders over 1,500 years. Your next destination is Luxor Temple,This beautiful temple was the main site of the annual Opet celebrations. Begun by Amenhotep III and completed by Tutankhamun, Luxor Temple has a fascinating history throughout the centuries. After a day in Luxor, your driver will take you to your accommodation in Luxor.
